With exception, Canadian Paul Kariya, Holzinger, it seems there is subtle lack
of NHL opportunity extended to Hobey winner.  Is there a conspiracy against
Hobey Baker winners?

How about the such recent Heisman Trophy winners as Charlie Ward, Geno Torretta,
Rashaan Salaam and Desmond Howard (yes, he was a Super Bowl MVP but had one good
year as a kick returner).
 
Only Oliver Stone would find this to be a conspiracy!
