James Evans asks:

Is there a conspiracy against Hobey Baker winners?

BRIAN BONIN AHL SYRACUSE 31 38 69
Kip Miller IHL UTA 72 38 59 97
Chris Marinucci IHL CHI 78 27 48 75

ROBB STAUBER AHL HAR 39 89 2.41- 2nd in Goals against

What is missing from this data is that most Hobey Baker winners are not
very big. They tend to be fast which pays a premium in college, but a
professional hockey player is a BIG and strong player. Size differences
in players and ice rinks minimize the importance of the Hobey winners'
skills. Also, the Hobey Baker is not based exclusively on hockey playing
ability but on academic/social achievements as well. It never was nor
never will be a meaningful predictor of professional hockey success.
