Update on some former college players that I saw at the UHL All-Star
game against the Canadian National Team ...

Harvard's Craig McDonald was the game's MVP with two goals and just
missing a third ...
McDonald said he has maintained his NCAA eligibility and could return to
Harvard, but he'll see what Carolina offers after this season.

Former Cornell forward Brad Chartrand is in his second year with the
program ... he is the team's leading scorer with 18 goals in 41 games.
He says he has applied for Cornell law and could go back to school if
things don't work out, but will look for a two-way deal next year.

Shane Johnson from BU had a steady game and appeared to be enjoying the
experience with the team.

Mickey Elick of Wisconsin won the fastest shot competition on Tuesday
with a shot over 97 MPH. He didn't get many shots through on net during
the game, but when he finally did, it was the game-winner that was
deflected in by Craig McDonald late in the third period ... past former
US Olympian Ray LeBlanc.

On the UHL All-Star team ... Randy Holmes and Jeff Winter, both playing
for Madison, are from Ohio State ... Winter was on his way to a recall
to Cincinnati after the game.

There were three Mass.-Lowell players on the UHL team, though one didn't
play ... they were David Mayes ... a defenseman who scored a goal - he
plays for Thunder Bay. Travis Tucker, another defenseman, who plays for
the Quad City Mallards -- he also got recalled after the game, to the
Grand Rapids Griffins of the IHL.

And Mark Richards ... a longtime standout minor-league goalie ... he
didn't play because he was recalled BEFORE the game to St.. John of the
AHL.

The other collegian was Mike Figliomeni -- formerly of Michigan Tech ...
affectionately known as Mike Figlio-midget -- because he's listed as
5-foot-5 -- but if he's over 5-3, I'm Santa Claus. But he may have been
the most impressive UHL player ... and he scored once.

Figliomeni is currently part of the highest scoring line in all of pro
hockey --- playing for Thunder Bay, everyone on the line has over 90
points, and the leader is a guy named Jason Firth with 130 points.

Also -- former NHL'er Brad Jones, a collegian a long time ago -- was
also in the game.
