Perhaps, but when the ECAC originally added the 9th and 10th place teams to the
playoff mix back in 1990, the tiebreakers kept using the "top 4" and "top 8"
teams, rather than switching to "top 10" or something.  It wouldn't surprise me
if they stayed the same now as well.
 
(It is goal differential in tiebreakers 4-6, BTW)
