                PIERCE AND LEISS NAMED ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
 
ROCHESTER, NY -- Rochester Institute of Technology has named women's hockey
player Kristine Pierce (Mendon) and wrestler Mike Leiss (Penfield) its Female
and Male Athletes of the Week.
        Pierce tallied two assists over the weekend as RIT went 2-1 on the road
trip.  But her most impressive accomplishment did not happen on the ice.
        The senior captain returned to the RIT lineup after overcoming a bout with
Hodgskins disease and missing all of last season.
        "Kristine is really an inspiration to our team," says head coach Robert
Filighera.  "She is proof that the toughest battles are not always fought on
the ice but in every day life."
        The Tigers downed Sacred Heart in Pierce's return to the game, 2-1.  They
then dropped a 4-3 decision at Wesleyan College and picked up a 7-0 win at
Connecticut College.
        RIT is off until December 6th when they hit the road to take on Colgate at
12:15 p.m.
