What has interested me in the discussion about dropping lists of penalties
from hockey box scores is -- what might be next ?

Some of the same arguments against the listing of penalties could very
easily be used to justify dropping other items, let's list a few:

Shots on goal (some debate the "value" of this stat)
Attendance
Time in net of goalies
Names of officials working game... etc.

What should happen is that people should report all they can, and USCHO and
others should not edit - run it as given (they should correct errors, not
wipe out data). If some data is missing from the report, so be it. Let the
reader decide what is important.

Did I care today that a Michigan prospect signed ? NO !! I will suggest
that more care about penalties in a game report than about a Dubuque
goalie. (Sorry, if you're the kid's parent). But, it got on this list TO
EVERYONE, it did not get intercepted.

I have posted on several occasions my thought that certain new lists should
be established so the more obscure and limited-interest posts could go to
those of like-minds (e.g. team lists like the one for Maine hockey, or
WOMENS-HOCKEY-L); until the time a more enterprising set of individuals
take up the challenge and build those lists, I like it as is. I keep the
delete button handy -- no doubt others do, also.

BTW, don't combine the lists. Do I have to say that again ?
