Despite outshooting North Dakota 42-32 tonight, CC let the game slip away
in the last 5 minutes to fall to the Sioux 4-2.

North Dakota got on the board first, 8 minutes into the first period
with a goal by Kevin Hoogsteen to take a 1-0 lead. A minute later however,
the Sioux took 2 penalties 45 seconds apart. The Tiger power play finally
clicked for the first time this weekend, and K.J. Voorhees put in a 5x3
goal to tie it. Less than a minute before the end of the first, North
Dakota took 2 more quick penalties that would carry over.

Unfortunately, CC couldn't convert on the remainder of the power plays at
the beginning of the second period. 2 minutes after the last penalty
expired, Jay Panzer retook the lead for North Dakota. Tempers started
flaring a bit in the middle of the period, and there were a couple of
instances resulting in coincidental roughing calls. The Tigers outshot the
Sioux 11-6 this period, but they weren't able to get the puck in the net,
and the second ended 2-1 in favor of North Dakota.

CC came out quickly in the third period and Jon Austin tied it up again
with an unassisted goal a minute and a half in. The Tigers got 2 more
power play opportunities, but weren't able to get anything past Karl
Goehring to take a lead. Midway through the period, North Dakota's offense
made some of the 7 shots they took this period count, with Hoogsteen
scoring a power play goal to retake the lead 11 minutes in, and 4 minutes
later Jay Panzer got his second of the night to take a 2 goal lead. CC
took another penalty, but managed to kill it off. Jason Cugnet was pulled
for the last 29 seconds of the period, but the Tigers weren't able to make
a dent in the lead and catch up.

Next week CC hosts St. Cloud State in a Sat/Sun afternoon series.
