After coming to the defense of the Globe two days ago, I have reached
the conclusion that in many respects its coverage is wanting. It is
however superior to many other sources. Having said that, the lack of
coverage is what drew me to U.S. College Hockey Magazine four years
ago. At that time I found the magazine a vast leap forward to what was
otherwise inaccessible. Within two years I discovered the internet, and
U.S. College Hockey Magazine became something akin to fish and chip
paper.

I would find myself lost without the Globe's Sunday sports section.
Sure, it doesn't have as much college hockey as we would like, but it
does offer a lot of other things. To compare it to other major
metropolitan dailies is a fools errand, because like politics, all
sports are local. I'm a Boston fan, and therefore my inclination is
toward the home team, with the exception being college hockey. I
thoroughly enjoy reading Peter Gammons, Mark Blaudschun, Mike Madden,
Bob Ryan, and Dan Shaughnessy, even though neither of them know squat
about our game.

I think what this thread is leading to is a survey of how local media
handles college hockey throughout the nation. Two years ago my wife
brought home from a business trip in Minneapolis a copy of the Tribune's
(I think) preview of the Minnesota high school tournement. It rivaled
any NBA preview that the Globe would carry. But on Sunday, does it
carry scores from Meehan Arena and the Bright Center? I would be
interested in knowing how college hockey plays in Peoria and Colorado
Springs.
