Neal Broten, one of the all-time greats at the University of Minnesota and
in the NHL announced his retirement on Monday.  He was the last member of
the gold medal-winning 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team.  He will be
remembered as a helluva hockey player.  He was the first American-born
player in the NHL to surpass 100 points in a season.  He was the first
Hobey Baker winner.  He also scored one of the great goals in the NCAA
championship game.  His sliding flip shot over the North Dakota netminder
in the 1979 title game was a classic and the eventual game-winner.
