But an NHL coach doesn't really do that -- he exploits the strengths of
talent that is already established. I dunno whether Parker would make a
good NHL coach, but I always suspect that a coach who does well in college
will be at a serious disadvantage for the first few years as a coach. This
may be especially true for a guy like Parker who is used to being the
Unquestioned God in an infamously provincial town. True, he'd still be in
Boston where his profile is a gold card, but a few losing seasons (and if
the Bruins are going to contend any time in the next few years they are
going to have to go through another one or two *horrible* seasons), and the
talk of the barflies around The Penalty Box and among whatever's left of
the Gallery Gods over in that corporate monstrosity on Causeway St. will be
that Parker can't keep grown men and egotistical pros in line.

I'm not a big fan of either Parker or BU, but I wish him the best if he
takes the job. Watching the Bruins the last few years reminds me of
watcghing the Mets in the late 70's -- no talent, no spirit, no energy, no
entertainment value whatever. If Jack can change that by picking up the
tempo and reintroducing the B's to super-advanced arcana like *passing*,
I'm all for it.
