Sherry Skalko, writing in her COLLEGE NOTES column for The
Providence Journal today, reported that the two leading candidates for the
head coaching position recently vacated by Bob Gaudet are:

TIM BOTHWELL - a 1978 magna cum laude graduate of Brown who is
presently the head coach of the University of Calgary Dinosaurs. He was
named the 1997 Canada West Coach of the Year as well as the 1997
Interuniversity Athletic Union Coach of the Year. A two-time captain of
the Bears and three-time first team All-Ivy defenseman, Tim played
professional hockey with the New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues and Hartford
Whalers before serving as head coach of the Medicine Hat Tigers of the
Western Hockey League and the Phoenix Roadrunners of the International
Hockey League. His career coaching record at the University of Calgary
presently stands at 90-29-6.

BRIAN DUROCHER - currently the associate head coach at Boston
University. He rejoined Jack Parker at his alma mater last year following
a four-year stint at Brown as Bob Gaudet's first assistant. A co-captain
and All-America, All-East goaltender for the Terriers' 1978 NCAA
championship team, Brian has also earned ECAC (Colgate) and Ivy League
(Brown) championship rings during his 19-year coaching career. He was an
assistant coach at B. U. for five years in the early eighties and then
assistant to Terry Slater at Colgate for seven years prior to his arrival
at Brown in 1992. He is credited with recruiting the players on Colgate's
1990 NCAA finalist team and he has also coached or recruited 75 percent of
next year's Brown varsity.

A selection decision is expected either tomorrow or early next
week. Stay tuned.
