The following is a response that I have finally received from Jim Marchiony
of the NC$$ regarding why the MSC satellite feed for the NC$$ Regionals was
blacked out in Chicago and elsewhere. Here is hoping that it truly be better
next year as promised by the NC$$. However, from past experience with the
NCAA I wouldn't hold my breath. It might be helpful if others on this list
wrote to Jim Marchiony <[log in to unmask]> about the TV coverage.

<< This is in response to your March e-mail , which recently has been
forwarded
to me. I do not know if anyone has responded to you.

We understand and appreciate your concerns, and are already working to
improve
the situation for next year. The NCAA did require MSC to black out the
hockey
games in MSC's "non-traditional" viewing areas; we did so in an effort to
protect those stations that paid to televise those games.

We have already begun talks with regional cable networks and others to
improve
the situation. For example, we'd like to black out the RSNs only in areas
where TV stations have bought the rights to selected games. So please bear
with us; we understand your concern; it'll be better next year. Jim
Marchiony,
NCAA Dir. of Broadcast Services [log in to unmask]
