She is coming to Maine on a field hockey scholarship, but has expressed an
interest in playing for Maine's women's ice hockey program.  That is still
up in the air because since she is receiving a full ride for field hockey
her coach must approve of any ice hockey.  Rumors I hear say that Terry
Kix, Maine's field hockey coach, isn't too keen on the idea.
 
What is interesting about her choosing to come to Maine is that she passed
up full rides from other top 10-15 field hockey schools to come to Maine.
Maine's field hockey has flirted with the Top 25 at times but it isn't as
good as schools she turned down.
 
From what I hear this has a lot to do with the Kariya's being very
traditional and that they really like Maine.  Such an attitude would seem
to bode well for Maine when the youngest Kariya is looking at colleges.
