Although the pay is probably a discrepancy in many sports coaching jobs, but it
is not necessarily true that the women's and men's coach in the same sport at
the same school should be making the same money. For example, do you think
Tennesee's men's basketball coach makes the same money as Pat Summitt? I doubt
it, and by the same token he shouldn't. Pat has put herself and her team in
the national spotlight on a yearly basis; a position that demands more from the
coach and she should be rewarded as such. My gut feeling is that at most
schools where the teams are not nationally prominent, the men's and women's
coaching salary discrepancies would be based more on tenure than anything
else. For example, Clarkson's men's coach in basketball receives the same
coaching stipend as the women's coach (as you probably know Clarkson's coaches
are considered phys ed professors, so the coaching job is an extra). Their
difference in salary would be solely based upon their tenure at the Univ.

I agree that probably there are more than 3 schools that
make $ out of football. The fact remains of all the Div 1 (A &
AA) programs, more then 50% lose money.

But that is not what Title IX is about. IX is about equity in
the porgrams (sports included).

Does the women's head hockey coach at Brown make the
same $ as the men's coach? If not, what is the difference?
What about the basketball coaches at Notre Dame??

If we can pay a male and female accounting professors the
same $ (Assuming equal qualifications and publications,
etc), whay can't we pay the men's and women's coaches
the same?
