West Point, NY- 23 April 1997- The USMA hockey team held its annual hockey
banquet in Eisenhower Hall overlooking the Hudson on the USMA campus. Coming
off a 19-13-2 season the Cadets said farewell to four senior members of the
100 point club (Tony DiCarlo; Frank Fede; Bill Morrison; Joe Sharrock) and
defensive forwards Chris Perron & Tom Deveans; and blueliners Mike Opdenaker
and Leif Hansen.
 
Awards- Beukema Award (MVP) Leif Hansen & Frank Fede
Marchand Trophy (team captain)- Mike Opdenaker
LT. Michael Gunning Award (a new award to honor the memory of the late Mike
Gunning class of '96 who was killed by a hit and run driver in October) for
dedication and scholarship- Chris Perron.
The award was presented by Mike's parents John & Elaine Gunning of Canton,
Ma.
 
97-98 captain Tony Felice who is believed to be the first captain of a d1
hockey team to hail from New York City.
