Actually, Bob was still the assistant coach to Charlie Holt at UNH when
Channel 11 started televising games in 1973. And, if Bob is trying to hide
his bias for UNH while doing NESN and ESPN games, he isn't succeeding. In
the HE semi-final he went on for two minutes about how Eric Boguniecki,
with his 173 career points, had reached the upper echelon in the UNH record
book, joining the likes of Cliff Cox, Ralph Cox, Jamie Hislop and Gordie
Clark. All of them were great players (and All-Americans) but I doubt if
more than 1% of his audience knew who he was talking about.

Interestingly, when Bob came to UNH in 1970 it was primarily as an
assistant coach for football (he had played at Rutgers). The job
description, however, said that he had to assist for the hockey team as
well. This is how he got into the sport and developed the knowledge that
he has today. Every great player who was at UNH in the '70's - the Coxes,
Hislop, Clark, Bob Miller, Bob Gould, Bruce Crowder, Rod Langeway, et al -
was recruited primarily by Bob. And to think he was doing on a "part time"
basis!
