According to Thursday's Dallas Morning News college hockey may be coming
to Texas. The article says that the UT athletic director is looking to bring
college hockey to Austin as a revenue generator, largely based on the
success of the Austin Ice Bats in the Western Professional Hockey League.
He cites concerns about Title IX as the primary obstacle, though I would
think that the $500,000 projected budget would also be prohibitive, and I
am not sure if that would include the travel costs. Dallas Stars' owner Tom
Hicks is a regent of UT and is very much in favor of this idea, though
everyone seems to think that it is fairly unlikely to happen.
Best,
Alex
