John Whelan wrote that this was Cornell's first appearance in
the SIT title game and, of course, their first SIT title. I listened to
a little of the Cornell radio broadcast and they said it was Cornell's
fifth SIT title. I looked up their SIT history. The statistics appear
below.
I guess I'm showing my age :), but there was a time when
Colgate & Cornell co-hosted that tournament. If memory serves me
correctly, the two schools had a bit of a disagreement because Cornell
wanted to schedule powerhouse western teams and Colgate did not. (The
problem was: Cornell could play with the "big boys" and Colgate could not
(at that time)).
The 1968-69 team won the SIT by beating Minn-Duluth & SLU (2-1
& 4-3 Resp). 1969-70 team won it by beating BU & Colgate (4-1 & 5-3
Resp). The 1971-72 team took the SIT with wins over Colgate & BU (8-2 &
3-2 Resp). And the 1973-74 team won Cornell's last previous SIT title by
outscoring Colorado College & Colgate (9-8 & 3-1 Resp). The Big Red
have played (& lost) in three other SIT title games.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday season. I'm
sure glad to see college hockey heating back up again. LET'S
GO RED!!!      -=>Bill<=-

P.S. John: I really enjoy you slant on the Cornell games. Keep those
articles coming. I post an article on the Prodigy College Hockey BB.
But it is never as interesting as yours are :).
