Unless I am mistaken, they mentioned in great detail why LaCouture was
leaving school. LaCouture's father is a High School coach and took a
broken stick in the eye. One surgery was unsuccessful and he's slated for
another. Dan was reported to be really down.
 
In light of the other info posted, maybe it was tragedy that occured at a
fortuitous time.
 
On a side note, if he was such a bad student what makes you all think he
would be coming back after Christmas?
