From an article in the Minnesota Daily, Doug Woog gave a few comments on the
passing of Bob Johnson last week.
"Bob really brought hockey to Wisconsin and expanded their program to the point
it is today. He brought a lot of guys from there to the National Hockey
League and expanded the opportunities for the American kids out there. He lent
credence to the idea that there are some Americans out there who can coach
hockey. And he helped Americans make it in big-time hockey."
Four memorial services were held simultaneously today in Pittsburgh, Colorado
Springs, Calgary and Minneapolis. The Minneapolis service began at 1:00 CST.
Three of the teams that Bob coached will honor his memory by wearing patches on
their uniforms. The Penguins, the Wisconsin Badgers, and the Warroad high
school team. In Pittsburgh, they have also painted the slogan that Bob made
famous on the wall of the arena: " It's a great day for hockey."
