From THE NCAA NEWS, May 10, 1995

Head injuries, primarily concussions, are on the
rise in men's ice hockey, according to a report on
injuries in winter sports from the NCAA's Injury
Surveillance System (ISS).

This ice hockey season's game injury rate was
similar to that of previous year and higher than
the nine-year average. The practice injury rate,
however, remains one of the lowest of the 16 sports
monitored by the ISS. Knee and shoulder injuries,
as in the past, are the most common. Approximately
one-third of the reported injuries required at least
a one-week time loss.
