Dartmouth extended their winning streak to two games with a 6-5 victory over
Union tonite. The win completed an improbable weekend sweep for the Big Green,
who hadn't won in 10 games coming into the weekend.

Scott Baker won his second straight decision between the pipes for the Big
Green. Baker's return to the lineup after a 2 week absence due t o an ankle
injury really gave the Big Green a lift this weekend.

Dartmouth jumped out to a 6-2 lead and were on the powerplay in the third
looking to put the nail in Union's coffin. But quickly Union scored two
shorthanded goals only 43 seconds apart to draw within 6-4.

Then with just over 2 minutes left in the game, Dartmouth got whistled for
another penalty. Union pulled the goalie and on a 6 on 4 advantage they scored
again to make it 6-5.

Dartmouth was hanging on for dear life at this point, and as Union pulled their
goalie again with a minute to go, the Dartmouth D tightened and the Big Green
held on for a 6-5 win.

Union starter Trevor Koenig gave up two goals in a 15 second span 3 minutes
into the first and clearly was shellshocked. Coach Delventhal hooked him
quickly and replaced him with Mike Gallant.
At this point it was 2-0 Dartmouth.

Union pulled to 2-2 before Dartmouth reeled off 4 straight goals to take a 6-2
lead in the third.
After the sixth Dartmouth goal, Delventhal again used the hook, replacing
Gallant with the third Union goalie of the evening, Luigi Villa.

Dartmouth now has 10 points, trailing Union's 11 points and, since I believe
St. Lawrence won tonite (they were leading 3-0 in the third), the Big Green
trails the Saints by 2 points for the final playoff spot.

Quite a weekend for the Big Green, who seemed all but out of the hunt with 6
points and a ten game losing streak coming into the weekend.

Dartmouth plays at Harvard and at Brown next weekend in what promises to be a
difficult road trip.

Bob Gross will post a summary a little later.

Respectfully submitted,
