NOTES
Fifty CCHA Players see action in NHL this season: Fifty former CCHA players
have played in the NHL this year including 14 for the first time with WMU's
Bill Armstrong being the latest when the Philadelphia Flyers called him up
last weekend. MSU leads the way with 16, followed by BGSU with 12.
Falcon 10-year road scoring streak ends: Prior to last Saturday's 3-0 loss at
Ohio State, the Bowling Green Falcons had not been shutout (on the road) in a
league game since October 21, 1981 (4-0 at Michigan State) a span of 161 games.
The shutout was the first for an Ohio State team since they blanked Western
Ontario 7-0 in Columbus on January 10, 1987.
Madeley continues to shine in Laker net: Lake Superior sophomore netminder
Darrin Madeley is in the midst of a school record 20-game unbeaten streak
(17-0-3). This past weekend in a sweep of Western Michigan, Madeley allowed
just three goals (two on the power play). In the third period of both games
combined, he stopped 29 of 30 shots.
Michigan State and Bowling Green have the "Road" to the Joe to travel: The
1991 CCHA Championships at Joe Louis Arena will mark the 10th year of the CCHA
Final Four at The Joe. In the first nine years only two schools have made it
every year to Detroit (Michigan State and Bowling Green). The Falcons are on
the road for the second time, while the Spartans did not finish in the top
four of the CCHA standings for the first time since entering the CCHA for the
1981-82 season.
Norris enters WMU series with eight-game point streak: Michigan State junior
Dwayne Norris has scored seven goals and added nine assists for 16 points in
his last eight games.
Seven Broncos having best year: Seven Western Michigan players have already
surpassed their previous best totals for points in a season. This year Tom
Auge (15-18-33), Scott Garrow (10-22-32), Jason Jennings (10-18-28), Keith
Jones (26-16-42), J.P. LaRoche (4-3-7), Andy Suhy (4-6-10) and Byron Witkowski
(10-4-14) are all having career seasons.
Clarke five points from passing Neil Smith on WMU blueline charts: Bronco
defenseman Chris Clarke has 112 career points ranking him fourth on the
all-time Western Michigan list. New York Ranger General Manager Neil Smith
currently sits in third place with 116 career points.
Michigan's Chris Gordon records shutout: Wolverine freshman netminder Chris
Gordon shutout Kent 3-0 Friday, it was the first shutout by a Michigan goalie
since Tim Keough whitewashed Ferris State 4-0 on November 11, 1989.
