at Merrimack 3, Providence 2 (ot)
Teal Fowler unofficially had the tying and winning goals in this one,
as Merrimack got a little luck and pulled out a win they probably should
not have had. With the extra attacker on, Fowler banged in a centering
feed from Wayde McMillan with 3 seconds left to tie it, then a shot from
the right point by Dan Hodge went in off Fowler's hand with 23 ticks
left in the OT. Obstinate referee Steve McBride originally awarded the
winning goal to Hodge and wouldn't allow it to be changed, but Fowler
has a bruise on his hand from where the puck hit him and the tape appears
to show the deflection, so it will likely be credited to Fowler. PC
goalie Brad Mullahy was outstanding and stopped 36 shots in a losing cause.
PC's Ridolfi-Cowan-Darby line, which tallied 7 goals Fri, scored only one
tonight.
Merrimack runs its record to 5-1-2 with Heather here...she was also on
hand when Merrimack scored with 3 seconds left to tie RPI, and when they
scored with 3:37 left to tie Vermont. And the Providence folks did not
believe me last night when I said Merrimack had its "secret weapon"
going today. :-) Box of both MC-PC games sometime Sunday. Heather says
hello, everyone. (btw, she was not here for Fri's 9-4 win by PC.)
UMass-Lowell 8, at Northeastern 5
Chiefs sweep the weekend series and take a solid hold on 4th. After
rolling up a 7-2 lead, UML had to hold on as NU fought back to within
7-5. UML is one of only a handful of DivI teams to have won 15 games.
not final: UNH 5, at BU 4 (4 min left)
Wildcats had come from behind to take one-goal lead with four minutes
left, last I heard.
Maine is at BC Sunday afternoon. HE update to come sometime Sun night.
