After talking to a number of people last night about getting from the airport to my downtown hotel, here are the main points:
> it is a 45 minute drive from DTW to downtown!
>cab is a minimum of $45 one way, and the "metrocar" limo service is $55 each way (with the suggestion of the desk staff that the extra $10 was worth it given the comfort and the distance)
>car rental is about $20 per day, so the 3 to 4-day cost of a rental car of $60-$80 would be less than a round trip cab fare ($90) if hotel parking is free. Fortunately one advantage of the two-decade long recession in Detroit is cheap rental cars.
