Karen,

It seems to me the early game was always at 12 or 1 PM local time with the
second semi around 7 PM. There were a number of frozen fours I wanted to fly
into Thursday morning, but the connections never arrived on time (e.g.
Albany), which necessitated an extra night's drinking on Wednesday.

My guess would be the contract is now handled by ESPNU rather than ESPN 2,
and though ESPN 2 could put all sorts of basketball or other events between
the two games, ESPNU is less endowed, so they want the games shown
practically back-to-back. Of course, they never asked the Hockey-L cruise
director about the timing.
