There has been some interest in more information about the book I excerpted
quotes from. It's a great book for anyone interested in Minnesota hockey.
There's plenty of material left for more history lessons, digressions or
diversions. The last forty pages is a history of Gopher hockey written by Don
Clark. It starts in the 1890s and provides insight into the startup of hockey
in North America as a whole.
In the course of compiling the quotes and history for the book, Ross talked to:
63 former Gopher players and coaches
15 media personalities
31 significant others
Here's the specifics:
Gopher Hockey by the Hockey Gopher
copyright 1992
by Ross Bernstein
edited by John Gilbert (Minneapolis Star & Tribune)
printed by The Publishing Group, Minneapolis, Minnesota
ISBN 0-9634871-0-8
cost $13.95
This was a locally published book. The first, small run was sold out before
Christmas of 1992. A second, larger run was printed. I noticed copies in a
Minneapolis B. Dalton bookstore when I was there a week ago. I don't know if
you can order through a bookstore, but if you're in the Twin Cities for the
NCAA's you can always make a point to look around.
