I don't want to speak for everyone, but many of us are perfectly content
having the Ivy title mean very little (particularly when only six of the
eight Ivies have teams).  That's especially true when an Ivy wins the ECAC
title (wow, I even refrained from saying "back-to-back").  I'm even willing
to give you the benefit of the doubt on your phrase "real D-1 schools."
 
Frankly, I think the best shot the new D-1 hockey schools have at exposure,
respectability, and an auto-berth a few years down the road is a conference
of their own.  You already get three eastern conferences that way.
