HOCKEY WINS AT STONEHILL, 6-3
FOXBORO, MA – Senior forward Rob Dudley (Douglas, MA/Middlesex School) scored three goal, sophomore goaltender Ben Vandervies (Hanna, AB/Kelowna Rockets-KJHL) made 28 saves and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team scored three power play goals in a 6-3 victory over host Stonehill in a non-conference game at the Foxboro Sports Center Tuesday evening.

Dudley scored the first two goals in the first period to put the Corsairs ahead, 2-0, and junior forward Nick Marquis (Londonderry, NH/Valley Jr. Warriors-EJHL) added another goal to give the Corsairs a 3-0 lead at the first intermission. Dudley scored his third goal in the second period, and freshman forward Steve Laliberte (East Falmouth, MA/Bridgton Academy) also scored as UMD led 5-1 after two periods. Senior forward Andrew Pontes (New Bedford, MA/Winchendon School) scored UMD’s only goal in the third period.
The Corsairs outshot Stonehill, 16-10 in the first period and 34-31 for the game. The Skyhawks had a 12-5 edge in shots in the third period. Chris Tasiopoulos made 28 saves for Stonehill.
“The difference in the game was our three power play goals, and Rob Dudley’s hat trick,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. “We moved the puck very well all night long. We played with great speed tonight and a fair amount of skill, and it was good to get the final non-conference game out of the way. Ben Vandervies played well in goal, and (junior defenseman) Matt Correia (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) played well on defense. Now, we’re into the third cycle of the MASCAC with six games left, we’re one point out of first place, and we can control our own future, so to speak.”
UMass Dartmouth improved to 13-5-1 with the victory, while Stonehill dropped to 6-9-2 with the defeat. UMD will return to action when they visit Worcester State Thursday evening.
