Auburn, MA - The Worcester State College Lancers ice hockey team fell to the visiting Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth by the final score of, 6-2, Tuesday evening at Horgan Ice Arena. The loss drops the Lancers to 2-5-1 on the year while the Corsairs remain perfect at, 5-0-0.
UMass-Dartmouth opened the scoring at 4:55 of the 1st period when Ray Kirby (Fairhaven, MA) notched his 4th goal of the season on an UMass-Dartmouth power play. Eric Quinlan (Saugus, MA) and Tyler Vrolyk (Boylston, MA) assisted on the goal. Worcester State goaltender Jason Richardson (Perkasie, PA) kept UMD off the board the rest of the session stopping 11 shots.
Jim Foley (Brockton, MA) added the Corsair’s 2nd goal of the game just 25 seconds into the second period. Paul Carr (Springfield, MA) and Tyler Crocker (Wakefield, MA) were credited with assists. At 8:16 of the 2nd period, Billy Carroll (Duxbury, MA) tallied the game-winner off passes from Paul Garabedian (Belmont, MA) and Francis Gunn (Winthrop, MA) to give UMD a, 3-0 lead. Just under two minutes later at 9:51, Vrolyk extended the Corsairs lead to, 4-0, with his first goal of the season.
Worcester State senior Chris Krawczyk (Marlboro, MA) got the Lancers on the board at 11:39 to cut the deficit to 4-1.
With Worcester State trailing, 4-1 after two periods, Vrolyk got his second of the game at 1:40. Freshman Lee Belisle (Chicopee, MA) answered for the Lancers to reduce the lead to, 5-2, before Crocker put the finishing touches on the game for UMass-Dartmouth at 18:11 for the 6-2 final score.
Richardson finished the night with 42 saves in the loss, while counterpart Jeff Green (Medway, MA) stopped 23 Lancer offerings.
