As a Minnesota hockey fan ever since I attended the U of M, I will never forget Herb's passion for Gopher hockey, the U and hockey in general, his running the program in a first class way in every respect, his innovativeness, and his refreshing personality. I was fortunate to know Herb while broadcasting Gopher hockey on the school radio station, and he had a knack for making everyone feel important.

I'm glad I got to know him, and was saddened to hear of his death. It almost seems surreal to speak of him in the past tense.
