September sensation Steve Kariya, the 5'6" rookie who was second in NHL
pre-season scoring and was a regular scorer through October, was sent to the
minors to make room on the roster for Mogilny. Although he has a two-way
contract and did not require waivers to go to the minors, demoting Kariya made
sense because he simply wasn't getting any ice time under Crawford.
Kariya was a healthy scratch four of his last five games with the Canucks, and
was seeing limited minutes when he did dress.
The Canucks hope he goes to Syracuse and improves his defensive game, while
rediscovering his scoring touch and boosting his confidence. It's a good plan. .
