If the Orangemen had a varsity program there would be people in the seats.
If you don't have college hockey all year round, why should any locals care
about it during a holiday weekend? I could not for the life of me imagine a
group of college kids or families home for Thanksgiving making a point to
catch that Colgate vs. Merrimack barn burner.
The recipe for success of any tournament (although not a guarantee) is for
local representation. Why else would the NC$$ arrange the seedings of the
Western regionals in past years other than to protect the gate?
This just begs the question I've been asking for years. Why doesn't
Syracuse have a varsity hockey program?
