1) Can we call a linesman a linesman?
2) I seem to recall that under the two-referee system, and the old
three-official system (two referees, one linesman), while the idea that one
guy will catch what the other misses is a great one, what winds up
happening in practice is a) calls are inconsistent from one end of the ice
to the other b) one referee tries to compensate for what he sees as the
shortcomings in the way the other guy calls the game or c) both a) & b).

Plus we have a hard enough time getting three competent officials on the
ice at the same time; wouldn't this dilute the pool further?
