Title IX is a classic case of the "Emperor's Clothes" syndrome. By equating
football with up to 100 participants- it knocks out the quota freaks who look
for absolute numerical equality in male/female athletes (maybe they should
look at the engineering and fine arts programs) - the answer of the quota
freaks is -its not the women who have killed every male non revenue sport
(wrestling; baseball; water polo) but football- so the answer is to eliminate
a sport that allows 100 to participate and by the way there is no prohibition
on women playing football or any other male sport. Of course when the jerks
at BU dropped football (and lost a million dollar contribution from an alum)
and noted there were only 5-10 thousand people at Nickerson for the football
games they didn't mention the SRO crowd of 97 that showed up for Terrier
women soccer on a Saturday afternoon. Hockey's saving grace is that once the
building is up a women's team is not a major expense.
Should women have teams yes- should we have quotas no- in a perfect world the
law of supply and demand would take hold- women interested in athletics would
go to schools that have programs they are interested in -
I can't wait for the flames
