** BRIAN GIONTA, BOSTON COLLEGE: SR F (Rochester, NY) scored at 1:17 of the

** overtime to advance the Eagles to the Icebreaker Cup finals and earn a
hat trick.

** Rookie of the Week:
** MATT DZIEDUSZYCKI, NEW HAMPSHIRE: FR F (Mississauga, ONT) registered four
assists
** against Concordia in his debut for the Wildcats.
**
** Defensive Player of the Week:
** MARKUS HELANEN, UMASS AMHERST: SO G (Vantaa, FINLAND) made 37 stops
against ** Concordia to earn a shutout for the Minutemen on Friday.
 
Also, B.C. holds the #1 spot in the USA Today Poll released yesterday.
Gionta and B.C. look to fill their otherwise idle schedule with an
exhibition match against Toronto this Friday. The Eagles will then take the
rest of the weekend off as well as next weekend. Their next games aren't
until the end of the month when they open their HockeyEast schedule with a
home-and-away series against Lowell on 10/30 & 10/31. The B.C. Eagles fans
look to invade Lowell's new rink for that Saturday night return match.

** Super Fans to Invade Lowell
**     October 1st, 1998
** Last November, the Super Fans invaded the Whittemore Center in New
Hampshire and
** helped cheer the Eagles on to victory. Since then, the bright gold shirts
have littered the
** stands during BC Sporting Events. This season, the Super Fans will be
making a trip to the
** new Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA as the UMass-Lowell Riverhawks host the
Eagles on
** Saturday, October 31st.

** The Super Fans are a group of Boston College students who are dedicated
supporters of
** Boston College Athletics. The trip, funded by the Pike's Peak Club, will
give those fans of
** Boston College Hockey the opportunity to support their team away from
campus.
**
** Those fans lucky enough to have been chosen to go, have already been
contacted by the
** trip coordinater.
 
 
Lowell hosts Ottawa this weekend as well as Amherst and RPI next weekend.
 
Hopefully, Lowell will have an adequate welcome for these "Super Fans".
