i attended a few arizona state games last winter (it
didn't feel like winter). the attendance was pretty
sparse - maybe a couple hundred. and this was for the
"big" games, i.e. michigan-dearborn and iowa state.
the rink they play in is pretty small, and i'm sure it
doesn't compete with the tucson convention center (i'll
     know better next year).

i saw ucla play usc a couple of times last year, and
the draw was about 500, maybe. funny thing was, usc
brought a band and there was a guy there selling tapes
     of the game.

it will be interesting to see if asu can set something
up with the coyotes to play before or after the coyotes
     games.

Just F.Y.I...

I think the interest is already there! The U. of Arizona Icecats (A.C.H.A.
Division I) rank near the top of attendance polls, year in and year out -
for ALL of college hockey! Arizona's average attendance - more than 6,000
per game - is on par with all the top draws in college hockey. And their
rink, the Tuscon Convention Center (a.k.a. "The Madhouse on Main Street")
rivals any college arena in the country. Likewise, I understand other
teams like Arizona State and a few in California and Florida, also draw
well...

The interest is definitely there. But then again there's lots of interest
and little action in other places too...
