In tracking down a few things to help update the Merrimack media guide, I
discovered that one item not included is the fact that Jim Vesey was
awarded the 1988 "Division II-III East" Hobey Baker. I have the official
award program from 1988 as proof; winning from the West that year was Ken
Hilgert of Mankato State. 1988 was also, of course, the year that Robb
Stauber of Minnesota won the DivI Hobey, and he gets a couple of pages
devoted to him in the program.

My question is, does anyone know the history of the DivII-III awards? Were
they ever given in any year before or after 1988? I can find no mention of
this in any of the Hobey literature anywhere, nor on the Hobey web site.
Before I decide to check with the Hobey folks, I thought I'd see what
people here know.

Complicating the matter is that Merrimack was technically DivI in 1988, so
I have no idea how it was determined who was eligible for the DivII-III
awards.
