Lest we forget, extracurriculars in college are for those who
participate. Inother words, the Flames didn't owe it to the Chicago
community to have a division I prgram. But ther sure as hell owe it to
the people to whom they have promised scholarships and the oportunity to
compete at teh div. I level! Okay, so maybe the program wasn't so
successful as measured by championships. That is not cause to write it
off as a failure. The bottom line is how it served the participants.
And also - how did the university uphold its responsibility to the
participants.

Time will sweep it all under the rug. But no amount of time will cause
the current players to forget how thier own university has sold them
out. Not that I am bitter, mind you . . . but having had the dubious
chance to witness this crap firsthand once before (Notre Dame following
the 1992-93 season) I can assure you that it is not simply a matter of a
"program" going down the tubes - this kind of discision effects the lives
of real people. That can never be forgotten.

It is a broken promise and is inexcusable.
