Au contraire -- who does or doesn't receive research dollars is generally
determined by peer review of grant proposals or by internal review at
Government agencies. All my experience shows that among these reviewers a
school's jock status is, at best, a neutral factor and, at worst, a negative
factor (if the proposal is peer-reviewed by someone like Tony :-).

Then there are folks like me, who work for a defense contractor so we can
have both a low salary and a lack of job security.
