Saw this on rec.sport.hockey and thought some people, particularly those at
Northern Michigan, might be interested. Corwin Saurdiff played for NMU in
1991-92 and 1992-93, turning pro after his sophomore season.

Saturday night, March 19th, Hampton Roads Admirals goalie Corwin Sardif
scored an empty net goal against Charlottein the ECHL. With about 4 minutes
left in the game Charlotte pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Sardif
managed to get the puck with no one near him so he took his time and let his
shot fly. It went over the head of most of the players and then bounced into
the goal 180 feet away. After the game he quoted Ron Hextall by saying that
he was aiming for the corner all the way. I was at the game and I will
remember it for the rest of my life. I had always wanted to see one.

I think it is the third regular season goal by a goalie in the history of
professional hockey. I know Hextall got one. Billy Smith got one (even
though he did not shoot it in, the other team put the puck in their own goal,
and he was the last to touch it). Nick Vitucci got one in the ECHL pre-season
(so it does not count). Olaf Kolzig got one in the WHL. Michel Plase (or
something like that) got one in a colonial league game. Does anyone else
know of any more?
