Bob Ames and Buzz Christensen were the refs at the Minnesota/St. Cloud State
game yesterday. Usually when Brutal Bob Ames is out there he is clearly the
worst ref on the ice. But when Buzzy steps on the ice, Ames is clearly
outclassed in the "real bad ref" department.

Worst call of the year award might go to our friend Buzz Christensen in
yesterday afternoon's game against St. Cloud State at Mariucci Arena.

In the third period, the play left the St. Cloud zone and went the other way.
Nick Checco went to skate around the St. Cloud net but the goaltender Brian
Leitza stepped out of his crease to interfere with Checco. The fans went
crazy.

Good old Buzzy, hearing the fans, turns around to see Checco and Leitza
falling to the ice. He calls Checco for interference with the goaltender.

St. Cloud then scored on the powerplay to pull within 1 goal of the Gophers.

In the first period, Ames was on the goal line, Buzzy was above the faceoff
circle on the other side of the rink. Along the boards, between the blue line
and Buzzy, a Gopher player was pulled down. After a short delay, Ames, across
the rink, seeing Buzzy with his hands in pockets, blows the whistle and calls
the penalty. Wow!
