Tonight's contest saw an irony on ice. BG was at the same time its best friend
on the ice and its worst enemy on the ice. The team looked good early, and for
all intents and purposes should have had the game put away, but stupid mistakes
and lapses allowed the Broncos to come back and eventually end the game in a
4-4 tie.

Bowling Green started out quickly with three goals. The first goal came on the
power play as Curtis Fry skates in and passes cross-ice to a waiting Brian
Holzinger who is able to "back-door" it in before Renfrew even turns around.
The second score came on a shot from Kelly Perrault mid-zone left straight in.
The third goal (again on the pp) came as Western fails to control in front of
its net and allows three rebounds, the last one by Mike Johnson going in over a
sprawling Renfrew. This was, however, to be the end of BG's dominance, as they
allowed Western to score twice in the last 2-1/2 minutes of the period to close
within 1 point. Western's first goal takes advantage of a huge hole in front
of the net to sink a shot by Kyle Millar. The second goal was caused by a
stupid defensive play on BG's part. While clearing the zone, instead of
sending the puck behind the net, it was passed in front; the pass was a
floater and sits in front of the net for a waiting Justin Cardwell to bury.

BG was to add a cushion in the 2nd period as it scored another PP goal from
Jason Clark. Rather than wrapping it up, though, the Falcons allow 2 more
goals - 1 by Chris Brooks on the wrap-around (which Clarke, in net, should have
seen), and the other when Jeremy Brown gets a back-door as both he and Misha
Lapin skate past the Falcon defense.

The rest, as they say, is history. No scoring in the third period or the
overtime. Both Clarke and Renfrew came up with some big saves in those last
two to end the game in a tie. BG limps away from this weekend with 1 point -
enough to keep them in 2nd place in the CCHA. Hopefully the stretch will put
the spring back in the step.
