I saw an article in this-morning's Chicago Tribune concerning the induction
of Ned Harkness into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame. It stated that former
executive director Roger Godin is (and I quote) "angry that former college
coach Ned Harkness will be among the three inductees".

The article states that the theme of the induction, to be held on Saturday,
is "A Celebration of American Hockey". It seems the Godin thinks that
Harkness should not have been admitted since he achieved nearly all of his
success with Canadian players.

The article goes on to state that Godin who was a member of the hall's
selection committee from 1971 to 1990 helped in rejecting Harkness when his
name first appeared for induction back in the mid-1980's.

The last paragraph of the article sounded like a contradiction in terms for
Mr. Godin as to why feels that Mr. Harkness should not be admitted. And I
quote the article

"There are at least eight college coaches among the hall's 87 members, not
including Harkness. Canadian played a significant role for each of them,
but Godin says the key difference is that some also relied heavily on
Americans."

To me the key word is "SOME". Being new to college hockey, and hockey in
general, it seems as if there is no love lost between Mr. Godin and Mr.
Harkness.

Also, with regards to the UMD -UW game being shown on ESPN tonite, it
doesn't look promising. According to the paper, ESPN is going to show a
taped broadcast of the June 14, 1994 game between the Canucks and the
Rangers.
