This isn't true -- in fact, it's happened in hockey. The NC$$ "vacated"
Plattsburgh State's participation in the 1986 and 1987 Division III tour-
naments, including the championship Plattsburgh won in 1987, after various
violations during that time were uncovered. The 1987 championship was *not*
awarded to the runner-up, as far as I know.
