The AHL tried the shoot-out for a little while (I believe
the year before and the first year of the Springfield Indians
championship years in the late 80's.  I think they won
back-to=back).  Anyways, they stopped it, probably because
it didn't work.
 
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
