Analysis- The subject line says it all: The Rem Murray Show. Spencer stopped
all the Spartans but one. Good thing he wasn't sick.

1st period- Very reminiscent of Friday night's loss to OSU. Spartans
basically skated around waiting for someone else to make
the play. Finner's goal came on a bad pass on the Spartan
power play, where he intercepted it at the Spartan blue
line and skated in alone on Buzak. He waited for Buzak
to make his move and then beat him top shelf.
2nd period- The Rem Murray Show kicks into high gear. First goal came
:14 into the period on a carry-over power play. Guolla
picked up the puck at the blue line near the left boards
and passed it to an open Carter near the top of the right
faceoff circle. Carter passed it to the fro
nt of the net
where a streaking Murray redirected it past Spencer.
Second goal was a little uglier. Guolla at the blue line
passes to an incoming Slater, who took the shot from the
point. Puck sailed wide of the goal to the right but
kicked straight off the boards directly to Murray, who
lifted it over a prone Spencer. Third goal (also on the
power play) was essentially a garbage goal. Suk shot from
the point (a miracle in its own right) stooped by Spencer.
Carter in front took a shot which was also stopped by
Spencer, after which Murray was able to poke it home.
3rd period- Lots of skating and checking, very little offense. Suk's
goal at 19:06 came after UIC had pulled Spencer on an MSU
power play. UIC added an "oh, by the way" goal some :11
                     later.

3 stars- 1. (who else) Murray, MSU
         2. Spencer, UIC
         3. Carter, MSU

If there was ever a must win for MSU, this was it. Expected both teams to be
a little worn on the short rest, especially UIC after a heartbreaker at BG.
Since MSU pretty much took Friday night off anyway, they shouldn't have been
that tired. Thank God Rem wasn't. It sort of got to the point that you knew
MSU wouldn't score unless Rem was on the ice. Good thing he's only a junior.
Win gives MSU a four-point lead on third-place Western Michigan, with LSSU one
point back in fourth and Miami one behind them in fifth. UM has clinched at
least a tie for the CCHA title (don't celebrate TOO early, John).

P. S. Would somebody please tell me who started that quaint little custom of
banging on the glass whenever players skate by? Is there some redeeming social value that I'm missing here? Is this the key to a higher order
of life form or something, or does it just display a complete lack of
anything resembling dignity and common sense?
