Athletic Director  Rick Yeo  said:
 
       "In two years, Newell and his staff have shown remarkable progress
        with the varsity hockey program, both with the performance on the
        ice and with the development of the recruiting program. Newell has
        shown great leadership skills and a special work ethic that is
        essential in the coaching profession today.  The extension of his
        contract is a show of support for his progress and gives him ample
        opportunity to continue to enhance the hockey program at Michigan
        Tech."

 I think this is a big plus for our program.  It lets incoming players and
   players thinking of coming here, know that the coaching position will be
   stable thru their stay here, something all players look at when choosing
   a school.  Congratulations to Newell.
