I agree you can't put too much weight into what the defendants' attorneys
say. They're going to slant things as much as possible toward their
clients' side. However, LaTulippe apparently admitted in his deposition
that some of the allegations he made were false (being cut from the team
for complaining about hazing, being pressured into drinking with the
team). This admission of falsity might easily cast doubt on the rest
of his story, even though he is sticking to his initiation party story.
You can bet that the attorney's for UVM and the players will try to
use this.
