This isn't necessarily true.  Supposedly the ratio rule (which I have only
heard of and never seen anywhere) is not gospel and can be ignored in
certain cases.
 
Rumblings are that the space odyssey tourney (2001) will involve 16 teams
at four regionals and that the MAAC will receive an auto bid for the first
time that year.
 
It makes sense if you consider it unlikely as I do that the MAAC will be
co-hosting the 2003 finals and not have a team in the tournament.
 
But it will be interesting to see if the MAAC will be guaranteed two slots
like the other conferences currently are.
 
On the post by Steve about the auto bid situation, it isn't that big of a
problem because most of the time, as in maybe 99%, the teams that won the
conference regular season and postseason titles were going to get bids
anyway.
